Winter Maintenance Tips

Don’t Forget About Winter Maintenance…

Whether your trailer is in a snow belt or just experienced a bad winter storm, seasonal snow buildup can have a huge impact on your summer getaway if you experience a roof collapse due to snow load. Too much snow/ice on a roof has the potential to endanger your trailer especially when spring temperatures fluctuate between highs and lows. The melting and refreezing can increase the weight of these deposits and put even more stress on the roof. Most trailer policies cover damage caused by roof collapse due to snow load. However, qualifying for coverage is based on the age of your travel trailer. If you would like clarification on whether snow load is covered on your policy, please contact a member of our team. Regardless, taking steps to mitigate the chance of a roof collapse is always recommended. Coverage or not, the aggravation of a preventable claim is not worth it.

Roof Snow Removal & Risk Management

To be more proactive managing risks associated with roof collapse, we suggest the following:

  • Make arrangements for roof snow removal with a local contractor
  • Take photos of the snow &/or ice accumulation before it is removed
  • Take after photos of the roof once roof snow removal is complete
